Spiritual Life

Spiritual Life

Our Catholic faith is apparent every day at Sandusky Central Catholic School. Beginning in Preschool, our students live out the mission of SCCS by Strengthening the body, Challenging the mind and Enriching the spirit.

Through daily community-wide prayer, special liturgical events, an intensive retreat program beginning in first grade and interpersonal connections, we follow the call of Christ to be a light to the world.

Daily Prayer

Every school day begins and ends with daily prayer. These prayers are traditional prayers of the Roman Catholic Church, including the Angelus, Morning Offering, Prayer of Saint Michael and the Memorare . Students are often selected to read afternoon reflections to encourage students and staff to pause half way through the day to reflect and participate in a self-examination.

Weekly Mass
Every week students and staff attend Mass at one of our Sandusky parishes. All faculty, staff, parents and friends are invited to attend our weekly Masses.  Masses are planned by teachers and students, and students serve as Altar Servers, Lectors, Music Ministers, Mass Coordinators, and Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion.

Weekly Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament
We are so blessed to have a chapel in our school—the All Saints Chapel—to which all students and staff have regular access. Every week on our “Mass Day” the Blessed Sacrament is exposed from 9:00am-2:30pm. Our teachers regularly take their classes to allow them to be in the presence of our Lord—His Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity. Our junior high and high school students regularly take time from their lunch period to sit in His presence.

Retreats
Students in grades 1-12 have the opportunity to experience retreats, a time away from regular classroom work to pray together, play together, and deepen their relationship with Jesus Christ on a level appropriate for their age.  Beginning in junior high, retreats take place away from school.  The retreat experience at SCCS culminates with the Senior Kairos retreat.  Kairos is an amazing event that takes place over several days and helps set the stage for the seniors' final year.

Reconciliation
Advent and Lenten Reconciliation is offered to all students grades 3-12 as well as faculty and staff. Weekly Reconciliation is available to all students grades 6-12 a half-hour before the School Mass
