Wellness Policy

Sandusky Central Catholic School Wellness Policy

Sandusky Central Catholic Schools are committed to providing an environment conducive to children's overall health.  Therefore, it is the policy of SCCS to:

1. Help students acquire the desire to eat healthy through example and education.
2. Encourage all students to be physically active in and outside of school.
3. Offer foods and beverages at school that meet the nutrition recommendations of the USDA Dietary Guidelines for Americans and Senate Bill 210.
4. Promote healthy snacks in the classroom.
5. Promote alternative rewards other than food in the classroom.
6. Discourage students from sharing their food and beverages with one another during meal or snack times, given concerns about allergies and other restrictions on some children's diets.
7. Not allow carbonated beverages or fast food to be consumed during the lunch program in the cafeteria.
8. Promote daily recess for PreK-5.
9. Provide a Wellness Center for students and staff.
10. Provide a nurse who will monitor heights, weights and BMI and offer suggestions and support to families.

The School Wellness Committee will meet regularly to discuss policy and monitor the effects on students and the school environment, and report status to administrators and parents.
