College Credit Plus is Ohio’s dual credit program where students earn high school and college credit at the same time. There are a few steps students must follow before they are eligible for the College Credit Plus Program. Below is a quick view of the steps in this process. 1. Students must fill out the Intent to Participate form and turn it into Miss Howman by April 1, 2018.
2. Students must apply to the college/university they wish to attend. SMCC partners with Bowling Green State University-Firelands for our Dual Enrollment classes. If applying to Bowling Green, please refer to the steps below for directions on applying.
3. Students must submit a Funding Form to Ohio Department of Education. Parents must create a SAFE account through Ohio Department of Education. Once the SAFE account is created, parent should follow the steps in this manual to complete the form. This application is open from February 15-April 13, 2018 at 5:00pm.
4. Once accepted to the student's college/university and all of the above steps are met, students may start registering for their college classes.
Applying to Bowling Green State University-Firelands
1. Fill out the BGSU Application.
2. Take the Accuplacer placement test. Students must score an 80 in the Reading section to be deemed "College Ready" and eligible to College Credit Plus classes. Students will have two attempts to reach this benchmark.
If students apply before January 24, 2018, they may take the placement test at school on February 7, 2018. If a student applies after January 24th, they may take the placement test at BGSU-Firelands. Please call 419-372-0886 to schedule your placement test on the Firelands Campus.
3. Miss Howman will submit the transcript to complete the application process. Ohio’s College Credit Plus can help you earn college and high school credits at the same time by taking college courses from community colleges or universities. The purpose of this program is to promote rigorous academic pursuits and to provide a wide variety of options to college-ready students. Taking a college course from a public college or university is free. That means no cost for tuition, books or fees. If you choose to attend a private college or university, you may have limited costs.
St. Mary Central Catholic has an agreement with Bowling Green State University; however, you can choose to take College Credit Plus courses from any college that offers a course that would benefit your future. This could include online courses.
