Sandusky Central Catholic participates in a Federally assisted meal program known as The National School Lunch Program. The program was established under the Richard B. Russell National School Lunch Act signed into law by President Harry Truman in 1946. Each day, millions of students fuel their minds and bodies with the good nutrition provided by the National School Lunch Program. Under this program all schools who participate must make free and reduced-price meals available to eligible students.

Our food service program believes that a well-fed child will be more active, focused, and able to learn to their full potential. Every school day, our students are served a nutritionally balanced meal, prepared by our qualified staff in a clean, safe, pleasant, and timely manner. All meals meet the State and Federal requirements that are basedon the USDA Dietary Guidelines and The Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010. The menus are planned using available government commodity food products from the United States Department of Agriculture as wellas purchased food products.

Each reimbursable meal contains five components which includes a meat-meat alternative, fruit, vegetables, whole grains, and an 8oz container of milk. Students are required to take three of the five components with one being a fruit or vegetable.

Students in grade 4-12 may chose the salad bar as their meal, which also counts as a reimbursable meal.

Ala Carte entrees and snacks are available for Jr. High and High School students to purchase. These items also meet the nutritional needs of our students; however, they do not count toward the reimbursable meal.

For the 2023-2024 school year, the prices of paid lunches will be as follows:

Preschool $2.85
K-5 $3.30
6-8 $3.70
9-12 $3.90

Milk - $0.50
Small Water - $0.75
Large Water - $1.25

Free and reduced benefits are for Lunch only; students who pack their lunch do not receive free milk.

Water will be available to all students; however bottled waters will need to be purchased.

Meal Payments: Pre-payments of meals are highly recommended. They may be made online in a safe secure way, in our finance office, or by sending in cash or a check. If payment is sent in an envelope, please make sure that it is marked with your child’s full name.

Account Balances/Meal Charging: The goal of Sandusky Central Catholic is to provide students access to a healthy meal each school day. It is the parent/guardian’s responsibility to provide for one unless the family qualifies for the free/reduced lunch program. Students at all grade levels will be allowed to charge full, reimbursable meals to their student meal accounts. Students shall not be denied access to a full school meal at any time regardless of the amount owed on the student account. However, if the outstanding balance reaches $10 or more the student will be prohibited from purchasing ala carte items, until the account moves into a positive status. To aid in the awareness of account levels, students are reminded verbally by cashiers when their accounts are becoming low or have reached a negative amount. For parent awareness, letters are mailed to the home address the school has on file. (Please note the dates on the notice, as you may have addressed the negative account before the letters arrive). If you have any concerns, please contact Maria Tone at [email protected] or 419-626-1892 ext.439

State of Ohio Budget Includes Reduced-Price Meal Funding

The Ohio Department of Education is thrilled to announce the State of Ohio FY24-FY25 biennial budget includes funding to cover the cost of providing no-cost breakfast and no-cost lunch to students qualifying for reduced-price meals. Starting in school year 2023-2024, the budget language requires public and chartered nonpublic schools that participate in the National School Breakfast or Lunch Program to provide a breakfast or lunch at no cost to each student eligible for a reduced-price breakfast or lunch. The state will then reimburse the schools 30 cents per reduced-price breakfast served and 40 cents per reduced-price lunch served. On the effective date of Oct. 3, 2023, the budget bill requires all participating schools to provide the no-cost meal to each eligible student although schools may and are encouraged to start the school year without collecting money from reduced-price students.

Schools will continue to certify students for free or reduced meals and count and claim meals as free, reduced or paid. Schools simply will not collect money from reduced-price eligible students starting in school year 2023-2024. The Department will share additional updates as the process for reimbursing schools for the reduced-price breakfasts and lunches served is finalized.
