Holiday Travel Update

With the recent dramatic increase in the spread of COVID-19 across the nation, it is important that we continue to do all we can to protect our SCCS students.

With that in mind, we are asking that any families planning holiday travel refer to Ohio’s COVID-19 Travel Advisory page prior to traveling. This page, updated weekly, provides data on the positivity rate of each state and recommends 14-day quarantine for individuals traveling to states with a positivity rate greater than 15%.

If your family travels to a state on the Travel Advisory list, your child(ren) will be moved to our RALI program and quarantined from school activities during the 14 day period following your return home.

Please contact your building principal or our school nurse, Mrs. Lorraine Haerr, if you have any questions on this important safety precaution.

The Erie County Health Department has also sent out information attempting to clarify confusion around the quarantine process—especially for situations where a parent tests positive for COVID-19 and then children are quarantined as “close contacts.”

From the Public Health Department at ECHD:

We have had a lot of issues with people testing positive and not isolating themselves from their household contacts. For instance, if a parent tests positive for COVID-19, their children would be placed on quarantine. The child’s quarantine would go 14 days from their last exposure to their parent. So if the child continues to come in contact with their parent throughout the parent’s isolation period, the child’s quarantine would be extended. This is because the child is still being exposed to the virus and has the chance to become ill.

This all gets more challenging as the health department continues to be inundated with cases and close contacts, causing delays in their contact tracing process and communication with those in quarantine—and their employers.
